THORNDIKE - Congratulations to Kelly Ravin, band members of ‘The Rugged’, and Alan Orcutt for their outstanding performance in concert Saturday night, August 4^th. The concert was held to benefit the non-profit FUTURE MSAD3 athletic campaign for the Mt. View school complex. Although the evening was hot and humid and the crowd was small, the audience was very appreciative of the air conditioned venue and the superlative talent on stage in the Clifford Performing Arts Center at Mt. View School.

The initial set was performed by Alan Orcutt, a lead vocalist who plays rhythm guitar. Over the years Alan has played with several bands and does a great job keeping his audience involved.

The second set was performed by ‘The Rugged’, with band members Travis Lloyd, (singer and lead guitar), Cody Tibbetts on the drums, and Tim Valliere on base guitar. All concert performers are friends of Kelly Ravin and all are Mount View High School alumni.

Kelly Ravin closed the concert show with songs he composed and has recorded. When Kelly picked up the guitar at 9 years of age, he knew his career path had changed from visions of being an NBA basketball star to playing in a rock and roll band. At 14, he played lead guitar and sang vocal harmony in the band Self Esteem, along with 3 other Mount View students and band manager, Dale Brea. Travelling around the State, they soon began composing their own material and copywriting several CDs: “Homegrown”, My Time has Just Begun” and “No Grab Ass”. After graduation Kelly attended Vermont’s Johnson State College with major studies in music.

In 2008 Kelly began playing solo and with the Kelly Ravin Trio from Vermont and Steel Toe Booty - a Brooks/Jackson local trio. His CDs ‘Barbed Wire’ and ‘Music from the Music Jar’ are now available.

Recently, Kelly and three other musicians started the band Waylon Speed, which has been getting good exposure nationally. Waylon Speed CDs are available on iTunes, CD Baby and via the band’s Face Book page. The band’s music can be heard on Pandora Internet Radio also.

FUTURE MSAD3 is so grateful to Kelly Ravin and his friends for their joyful benefit concert. Concert proceeds will help fund FUTURE’s athletic campaign to raise monies for bleachers, dug outs, walking trails, scoreboards, concession and restroom facilities, and much more.
